Tans Union is a consumer credit reporting agency in the US
providing a national online information system through
TrueCredit.com. This system provides credit grantors across
the country with one source for consumer credit information.
If you think your credit
report is inaccurate, you can request an investigation on
the data. You can dispute inaccurate data in your credit
report in one of three ways:
Online
At the Transunion.com
Website through an interactive dispute process which gives
you online access to the status of your open dispute.
Phone
Customer service
representatives are specially trained to answer questions
about your credit report and initiate a dispute
investigation on your behalf.
Before you call you will
need the following information on hand:

Your TransUnion file
number, if you already have a copy of your TransUnion Credit
report
-
Social Security number
-
Date of birth
-
Current address
-
Company name of the disputed item (as listed on your credit
report
-
Account number of the disputed item (as listed on your
credit report)
-
Reason for your dispute (such as, it is not your account, or
you have paid the debt)
-
Any corrections to your personal information (address, phone
number, etc.)
If you have not recently
been denied credit, the system will quote a price and tell
you how to write for a copy of your report.
Mail
TransUnion's Request for
Investigation form for disputing inaccuracies enables you to
print and complete the form with your information and mail
the completed form to the return address on the form.

Free ways to get your credit report:
If you are turned down for
credit, employment, or insurance within the last 60 days.
Submit written proof of your turn down and mail it to the
credit bureaus, requesting your free report (use this
request
credit report letter).
If you've been charged
higher interest rates, fees or deposits because of a credit
report issued by a credit bureau, then it's your right to
get a free copy from that bureau.
If you certify in writing
that either:
You are unemployed and plan
to seek employment in the next 60 days
If you are on welfare
If you were a victim of fraud
... then you are entitled
to a copy of your report free (use the sample request credit
report letter above).
Under the Fair Credit
Reporting Act (FCRA), some states have laws requiring the
bureaus to provide one free credit report per year. To find

costs. The FACT Act of 2003 allows everyone, anywhere, to
get one free report
each year from each of the credit reporting agencies
from December 2004.
